Privacy

This policy covers Mawrid's three products — the Chrome extension, the Android app, and the app for iPhone and iPad — and this website. All of them work without an account, advertising, analytics, crash reporting or tracking. Mawrid has no server of its own: nothing you do in it is sent to the developer, except feedback you choose to send.
In short
- No account, no ads, no analytics, and no crash-reporting or tracking code, in any product.
- What you keep in Mawrid — settings, bookmarks, saved ayahs, dhikr progress — is stored on your device.
- To fetch Quran text, audio, prayer times and radio, Mawrid talks directly to the named services below and sends each one only what its request needs. As with any web request, each service can see your IP address.
- Location is optional in the apps and never used in the background. The extension does not use it at all.
- Feedback is sent only when you press Send.
The Chrome extension
Data it stores
Mawrid stores the following information locally in Chrome storage on your device:
- interface, translation, reciter, theme, motion, clock, repeat, and ayah-selection preferences;
- Tafseer, playback speed, and verse-volume preferences;
- selected display background, background favorites, dark/light/system mode, automatic-rotation choice, and blur preference;
- manually entered prayer city/country, calculation method, school, time adjustments, DST, labels, Adhan mode/voice/volume, and mute choice;
- saved ayahs;
- a limited cache of previously validated ayahs;
- a limited cache of monthly prayer calendars;
- the last displayed ayah;
- first-run completion and a random local seed used for daily ayah selection;
- Settings choices, including module visibility, number format, Hijri adjustment, verse visibility, and Islamic reminder preferences;
- user-created quick-link names and addresses;
- the selected dhikr phrase and its local count.
This local information is used only to provide Mawrid's visible features. Mawrid does not transmit it to the developer or sell, share, or use it for advertising.
The Data Management section can export settings, saved ayahs, quick links, and dhikr progress to a JSON file you choose. Importing a backup is an explicit local action; Mawrid validates the file before replacing those local values. Backups are not uploaded by Mawrid.
Network requests
Mawrid makes read-only HTTPS requests to the Quran.com API to retrieve Quran text, translations, Tafseer, search results, metadata, and recitation URLs. Recitation audio is delivered over HTTPS by EveryAyah's CDN (everyayah.com) for every reciter. Two Quran.com media hosts (verses.quran.com, mirrors.quranicaudio.com) remain permitted so that ayahs cached before this change still play; nothing new is requested from them.
Mawrid sends the manually entered city and country, calculation method, school, year, and month to the AlAdhan API to retrieve prayer times. Full Adhan audio, when enabled or previewed, is streamed from AlAdhan's CDN (cdn.aladhan.com). Normal service infrastructure may process technical request information such as IP address according to those providers' own policies.
Quran Radio, opened from the toolbar, fetches its station directory from www.mp3quran.net when the player opens, and streams the station you choose from that station's own host — in this build backup.qurango.net or stream.radiojar.com. Streaming exposes your IP address to that host for as long as you listen, exactly as opening the station's website would. Mawrid sends nothing else with those requests, and the only thing it remembers is which station you last chose.
Mawrid does not send saved ayahs, preferences, browsing history, opened websites, or account information with these requests.
Display-gallery backgrounds are bundled inside the extension. Selecting, favoriting, rotating, or blurring a background does not make a network request.
Browser permissions
Mawrid uses:
storage, to save preferences, favorites, and cached Quran content locally;alarms, to check for due prayers once per minute;offscreen, to play a user-enabled Adhan or short reminder from the background;clipboardWrite, to copy verse text or a generated verse image after you press Copy;- narrowly scoped access to
api.quran.com,api.aladhan.comandwww.mp3quran.net(plusgeocoding-api.open-meteo.comwhen you search for a city); notifications, for the optional adhkar reminder.
Mawrid does not request access to tabs, website contents, identity, geolocation, camera, or microphone. It uses notifications for the optional adhkar reminder. Chrome's most-visited list is behind an optional permission that is requested only when you switch that row on and released when you switch it off; the list is read to draw the tiles and is never stored, derived from, or transmitted.
The Android app and the iPhone and iPad app
The two apps work the same way except where this section says otherwise.
Data stored on your device
- your settings: interface language, number format, theme and background, reader and recitation choices, your prayer place (its name and coordinates), calculation method, Asr calculation, time adjustments, adhan choices, and your reminder, widget and adhkar preferences;
- what you keep: mushaf bookmarks, favourites, quick links and adhkar progress;
- caches: ayahs, translation and Tafseer text you saved for offline reading, monthly prayer calendars, and the radio station directory;
- downloads you ask for: printed mushaf pages with their page-position data, recitation audio, and adhan recordings.
On Android, settings are kept in the app's preference stores and everything else in its database and files. On iPhone and iPad they are files in the app's own container, which its widgets share; an unsent feedback draft is kept in the app's preferences.
This information is used only to provide Mawrid's features. Mawrid does not transmit it to the developer, and does not sell, share or use it for advertising.
System backups. Your phone may back up app data under your own account. On Android, the system backup and device transfer include the app's preference stores — and with them your prayer place — but not its database. On iPhone and iPad, the app's data is part of the standard device and iCloud backup. Mawrid does not receive these backups.
Network requests
Each app talks directly to the services below. Requests carry no account or device identifier. Each service sees your IP address, as with any web request, and handles it under its own policy.
api.quran.com— Quran text, translations, Tafseer and search. Sent: verse keys and page numbers, the translation or Tafseer you chose, and the words you search for. Saving a translation or Tafseer for offline reading downloads it from here, chapter by chapter. On Android, the Verse home-screen widget may fetch the day's verse from here; the iPhone and iPad widgets do not use the network.everyayah.com— recitation audio, streamed or downloaded. The address is built on your device from the reciter and the surah and ayah, so there is no lookup request. Earlier versions of the Android app also streamed some reciters fromverses.quran.comandmirrors.quranicaudio.com; both remain permitted so that audio saved then still plays.android.quran.comandfiles.quran.app— the page images and page-position data of a printed mushaf, downloaded once when you choose that print.api.aladhan.com— monthly prayer calendars. Sent: year, month, calculation method, Asr calculation, and either your place's coordinates (whenever it has them: a city chosen from search, your current location, or coordinates you typed) or its city and country. On Android, next month's calendar may be fetched in the background so the adhan stays scheduled.cdn.aladhan.com— adhan recordings: when you preview a voice or download it, and automatically once a place is set with the full adhan on, but only over Wi-Fi or another unmetered connection (on iPhone and iPad, also not in Low Data Mode). On iPhone and iPad the recording is cut on the device into notification sounds.geocoding-api.open-meteo.com— city search. Sent: the name you type (at least two characters), the interface language and how many results to return.- Your phone's own geocoder — only when you tap “Use my current location”. Your coordinates go to the Android platform geocoder (usually provided by Google) or to Apple's geocoder, which return a city and country name.
www.mp3quran.net— the Quran radio station directory. Sent: only the language, Arabic or English. The list is kept for 24 hours.backup.qurango.netandstream.radiojar.com— the station you play. The broadcaster sees your IP address for as long as you listen.formsubmit.co— feedback, only when you press Send (see Feedback).
Mawrid does not send your bookmarks, saved ayahs, settings or usage to any of these services.
Location
- Location is optional. You can set your place by searching for a city or by typing coordinates, without granting any permission.
- Android asks for approximate location only (
ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION), and only when you tap “Use my current location”. It is read once, to set your place. - iPhone and iPad ask for location “While Using the App”, to about a kilometre, when you tap “Use my current location” or first open the qibla compass. The compass uses it on the device to point to true north; nothing is sent for that.
- Neither app uses location in the background. The place you set is saved as your prayer place and sent to AlAdhan as described above.
Notifications and alarms
- Every notification is created on your device. Mawrid has no push server.
- Android: notifications for the adhan, Islamic occasion and dhikr reminders, and playback and download progress. Each prayer's adhan is an exact alarm, set again after a restart, an app update, or a change of time or time zone. The full-screen adhan alert is optional, and Android lets you revoke it.
- iPhone and iPad: notifications for the adhan and for Islamic occasion and dhikr reminders, scheduled ahead of time on the device.
Permissions
Android: INTERNET and ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE (fetch content, notice the connection); POST_NOTIFICATIONS; SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM and USE_EXACT_ALARM (call the adhan on the minute); RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED and WAKE_LOCK (set the adhan again after a restart, and keep it sounding); USE_FULL_SCREEN_INTENT (the optional full-screen adhan alert); FOREGROUND_SERVICE, FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MEDIA_PLAYBACK and FOREGROUND_SERVICE_DATA_SYNC (recitation, radio and the adhan; downloads); and ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION, as above. There is no precise-location, storage, contacts, camera or microphone permission.
iPhone and iPad: Notifications; Location While Using the App; and background audio, so recitation and radio keep playing. Mawrid does not ask to track you, and does not request access to your contacts, camera, microphone or photo library.
Backups you make
Settings → Data can export your settings, bookmarks, favourites, quick links, reminders and adhkar progress to a JSON file saved where you choose; downloads are listed but not included. Importing reads a file you pick, checks it, and then asks whether to keep both or replace what is on the device. Mawrid never uploads these files. The format is shared with the Chrome extension.
Feedback
The feedback page on this website and the form in both apps send your message only when you press Send, through FormSubmit (formsubmit.co), a form relay that forwards it to the developer's inbox. What is sent: the kind of feedback, your message, and the reply email you entered — or “(not provided)”. The apps add an app-version line only if you leave that switch on. No device data is sent. If sending fails, you can use your own email app instead, or copy the message. You can always write to support@mawridquran.com directly.
This website
mawridquran.com sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and serves its own fonts and images. It contacts another server only when you act: the recitation player on the home page streams audio from everyayah.com when you press play, and the feedback form sends through formsubmit.co when you press Send. Choices you make on the site, such as the language, are kept in your browser's local storage and are not sent anywhere.
Keeping and deleting data
- Chrome extension: Local information remains until you reset Mawrid's local data, import a replacement backup, remove the extension, or clear extension storage. The Reset local data control is available under Settings → Data Management.
- Android, iPhone and iPad: local data remains until you use Reset local data under Settings → Data, delete downloads in the app, clear the app's storage, or uninstall it. Copies in your phone's own system backup follow that backup's settings.
- Feedback: a message you sent us, and the email address if you gave one, is kept only in our inbox. To have it deleted, email support@mawridquran.com from any address and say which message; we delete it and confirm. Nothing else about you is held anywhere, so there is nothing else to delete.
Children
Mawrid does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes and contact
This policy, the Chrome Web Store privacy declaration, the Google Play data safety section and the App Store privacy details are updated whenever Mawrid's behaviour changes.
